Our performance
An overview
How do we perform? What are our targets? Do we meet them? How do we compare with previous years and other fire services in the country? Performance is an important subject that impacts our future targets and funding, and is affected by our planning and management processes. Ultimately that means our performance affects you, the community that we serve, each and every day.
Facts, figures and plans
Each year we produce a Best Value Performance Plan, which is a comprehensive analysis of the Service's performance the previous year compared to the year before that. This looks at our performance in a number of areas called Performance Indicators (PIs). Some of these are set nationally and some are determined locally by the Fire Authority. Examples of PIs include the number of accidental fires in the home, the number of deliverate fires, the number of deaths and injuries from accidental fires in the home and the number of fires to homes or commercial premises (primary fires). We also produce an annual Corporate Plan which sets out what we are going to do in the next 12 months to achieve our corporate objectives and which PIs we will use to measure success.
Assessing us
To monitor and publicise our performance, the Audit Commission undertakes a Comprehensive Performance Assessment, (CPA) which aims to rate our management at a corporate level, our service delivery and how well we are improving year on year (our Direction of Travel). After each annual assessment we draw up a Direction of Travel action plan to ensure we address any areas where improvement is needed.
