Cambridge fire station
Wholetime (24/7)
Cambridge fire station is the largest in the county and is the sole fire station in the Cambridge City district. Four watches of wholetime firefighters (Blue, Green, Red and White) operate two water tenders, a rescue vehicle and a turntable ladder 24/7, 365 days a year.
The district staff for Cambridge City and South Cambridgeshire are based here too, including district management, administrators, fire safety and community safety officers and an HR adviser.
Cambridge fire station is due to be redeveloped next year (2009) in a partnership between the Fire Authority and urban developers Stofords. The current fire station will be knocked down and a new fire station will be built on the same site, over which will be around 130 residential appartments. While the fire station is being rebuilt, firefighters will move into a temporary fire station which will be built within the territorial army base in Coldhams Lane.
