Fire safety education: Pre-school
The Big Fire Engine Activity Box
This is a box of resources for pre-school and nursery children. Its contents will help nursery teachers give children a basic understanding of the dangers of fire, including matches and lighters, and what to do if they see a fire in their home. It also helps children to understand what firefighters do.
The boxes are available for every nursery school in Cambridgeshire to borrow. Nursey schools in Peterborough can book the box at the Play Store. All other nurseries should contact their local fire service district office if they wish to borrow it.

Activity Sheets
The activity sheets contain the following activities:

Balloons - count the balloons is a simple colouring and counting exercise

Shapes - looking at shapes and colours and identifying them with the pictures

Firefighting - recognising letters of the alphabet

Count and colour - counting and colouring, and number recognition

Tracking - getting the fire engine to the fire (co-ordination skills)

Hot and cold - identifying objects that are hot and cold and highlighting fire hazards within the home, and those that can cause injury

Shapes and shadows - more shapes (shadow matching exercise)
