The central task force

The Central Task Force is made up of (left to right): Pat Clark, Mervyn Vickory and Abi Hirji.

We have a central task force of community safety officers who are used across the county to support districts to reduce accidental house fires in their area.

The team work in targeted areas to encourage residents to have a free home fire safety check (HFSC).

The work of the central task force supports the programme of home fire safety checks carried out by firefighters and the local community safety officer for that district. The central team usually targets specific wards where there have historically been larger numbers of fires in people¿s homes.

The team will leaflet an area with one of our special cards, explaining that they will be in the area in the coming days to carry out home fire safety checks. Residents receiving a card through the door can ring the number given to make an appointment or if they are in when the team calls, the officers can carry out a HFSC right there and then. The team usually returns to the same area at different times of the day to try and catch people when they are home.

All community safety officers carry an ID card and are happy to show this when they arrive before you allow them into your home.

The visit takes about 30 minutes and they will fit smoke alarms for free too if you do not have any.

Some people do not believe these visits are free. There genuinely is no catch. We carry out the safety check and fit smoke alarms if you do not have them for NO CHARGE at all. All we ask for is for your time and attention during the visit.
