In the workplace
Although reducing accidental fire deaths and improving fire safety in the home are vitally important, we also have a statutory duty to enforce legislation in non domestic premises too.
Our specialist fire safety officers can offer advice to business and other non-domestic premises owners to help them comply with their duties under the Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005 (refered to in this section as the Fire Safety Order or FSO).
This legislation requires the responsible person(s) of any non-domestic premises to ensure they are compliant with the Fire Safety Order to protect their staff and visitors from fire.
The phrase 'non-domestic' is important. It is not just businesses that need to be compliant with the legislation, it relates to any premises that is not used as a place to live - other than a house in multiple occupation (HMO) where corridor or 'common' areas such as living areas, kitchens and hallways do fall under the Fire Safety Order. This includes places of worship, schools, charity organisations and town halls etc.
