Grass on fire - Hampton Vale - Peterborough

05 May 2011, 6.00pm

At 6pm last night (5), one crew from Stanground was called to a report of bushes on fire at Four Chimneys Crescent, Hampton Vale, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find about 20 square metres of grass which was well alight.

They extinguished the fire using hose reels and beaters and returned to their fire station by 6.50pm.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

A fire service spokesperson said: "At this time of year fires in vegetation can spread extremely quickly. A large fire can easily be started from a carelessly discarded cigarette or glass magnifying sunlight."
