Bungalow fire - Eye - Peterborough

At 8.27pm on Thursday (19) one crew from Dogsthorpe, one crew from Stanground, one crew from Thorney, two crews from Huntingdon and a crew from Crowland in Lincolnshire were called to fire on Back Lane in Eye.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire in a bungalow. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets.

The crews returned to their stations by 12.15am.

A fire investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.


Update - 2.30pm

Officers remain at the scene and are working with other agencies and a structural engineer.

The structure of the building is currently not safe enough for officers to carry out the investigative works required, so the investigation into the cause cannot be concluded. It is anticipated work will continue during the weekend.

A casualty did sadly die at the scene.


Update - 9am, Monday January 23

Officers attended the scene during the weekend to continue working with partner agencies and a structural engineer. 

The bulding is safe to enter so investigation will continue today.


Update - Wednesday Janaury 25

A fire service spokesman said: “The damage to the property was extremely severe, making the cause very difficult to determine.

“Our fire investigation work on site has finished, but further work is being carried out by the Health and Safety Executive. Once this has concluded we hope to confirm the exact cause.”
