Business Safety Week launches

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service (CFRS) will be reaching out to local business owners to sign up to a FREE Business Seminar this week as part of Business Safety Week.

Monday September 11 will see the launch of Business Safety Week, with services across the country highlighting the importance of keeping their business fire safe. CFRS will be encouraging Cambridgeshire business owners to take this opportunity to attend a free seminar, which are held at stations throughout the county.

This Business Safety Week companies are being urged to follow the SIMPLE steps to fire safety:

  • S: Store stock safely: keep corridors, stairs and exits clear
  • I: Identify alarm points so you can warn others
  • M: Make sure doors are closed to stop fires from spreading
  • P: Place things that catch fire away from things that cause fire
  • L: Let someone know if you spot fire safety problems
  • E: Ensure everyone knows what to do if a fire alarm sounds.

At a time when many businesses may be recruiting seasonal staff for the Christmas period, this is an ideal time to update and refresh processes around fire safety and ensure that the relevant staff members know what to do in order to protect your business from fire.

Head of Fire Safety, Group Commander Brenan Morgan said: “We are determined to support and inform business owners across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough of what they need to do to ensure compliance and protect their businesses from fire.

“On average there are 165 fires in business premises in Cambridgeshire each year, many of which don’t go on to trade again.

“By attending a business seminar, businesses will be supported in putting together a comprehensive fire risk assessment, totally free of charge, to help protect their business from fire and ensure business continuity.”

Seminars run across the county in various locations and can be organised ad-hoc to meet your needs wherever possible. For information on upcoming seminars or to book a place please contact CFRS on 01480 444 500 or book online in the Business Safety section.
