Cow in river - Coe Fen - Cambridge

Two crews and a rescue vehicle from Cambridge were called to help rescue a cow that had become submerged up to his body in a muddy ditch.

Wearing drysuits, firefighters pulled the cow from the ditch in Coe Fen, by the Fen Causeway, using specialist rescue equipment and the City Council's tractor.

Station Commander Wayne Swales said: "It took a considerable amount of time just because of the position of the cow. It's legs were completely submerged and the mud was halfway up its body."

Crews returned to their station by 9.20pm.
