Dishwasher fire - Offord D''Arcy - Huntingdonshire
30/10/2016 - 10.04AM
Crews from Huntingdon and St Neots were called to a dishwasher fire at a home in the High Street.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the fire and returned to their station by 11.08am.
Station Commander Stuart Smith reminded home owners of the importance of installing smoke alarms on every floor of their home.
“Working smoke alarms should be fitted on every floor of a home to ensure all residents are alerted to a fire at the earliest opportunity so they can get out of the home safely following their escape plan. It is important to ensure all persons living in the house are aware of the escape plan including children.
“Whilst this was a fire in a dishwasher it is a timely reminder to ensure home owners of the importance of electrical safety. Please do not overload sockets or extension leads with appliances. Consider whether an extension lead is required and if not all appliances should be plugged directly into sockets to remove the potential of the extension lead being overloaded.”
