Fire in recycling yard - Abbey Ward - Cambridge

A crew from Cambridge was called to a fire in the open at a recycling yard in Swanns Road, Abbey ward, Cambridge.
Smoke had been seen from a metal recycling yard and firefighters arrived to find white smoke coming from seven barrels containing approximately 140kg of aluminium by-products.
Firefighters cooled the barrels using jets and wearing breathing apparatus. A hydrant and dry powder extinguisher was also used to extinguish any signs of fire.
Firefighters returned to their station by 7.30am. A crew continued to make regular inspections to the site throughout the day.
The cause of the fire was accidental – a chemical reaction caused the ignition.
