Fire in the open - Wennington - Huntingdonshire

Crews from Huntingdon and Papworth were called to a railway embankment on fire off the B1090 at New England Bridge, between Huntingdon and Peterborough.

The Northbound line of the East Coast mainline was closed temporarily while firefighters tackled the fire with small fire fighting equipment including beaters and an aqua pack.

Trains were delayed for about 30 minutes while firefighters tackled the fire before returning to their stations by 3.46pm.

Cause of the fire was accidental.

Watch Commander Stocker Standen said: “An old steam engine had gone through earlier and sparks from the chimney caused the fire.”
