Firefighter prepares for half marathon challenge - Cambridgeshire
A firefighter is getting ready to run a half marathon for charity – fully kitted out in his firefighting kit.
Firefighter Lee Parnell, based at St Ives On-Call Fire Station, will also be carrying a breathing apparatus set on top of his kit to make the run that little bit tougher.
The Huntingdonshire dad is raising funds for The Fire Fighters Charity and the Rosie Maternity Ward at Addenbrooke’s Hospital by running the Cambridge Half Marathon on Sunday, February 28.
The 32-year-old said: “The Fire Fighters Charity does valuable work to help firefighters and their families, so it was an obvious choice to raise funds for them. I’m also raising money for The Rosie after they saved the life of my daughter Emily when she was born in May 2015 and it is thanks to them that she is perfectly healthy now.
“I’m certainly not making this run easy for myself as not only will I be running the distance in firefighting kit, I will also be carrying a breathing apparatus set that weighs about 20kg!”
Lee hopes to raise £1,000. You can donate here: http://www.virginmoneygiving.com/Lee_Parnell
