Flat fire - New England - Peterborough

Crews from Dogsthorpe, Stanground and Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a flat fire in Chaucer Road, New England.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish a fire in a ground floor flat. The occupant of the property was out of the property when crews arrived and taken to hospital by ambulance to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Firefighters searched the rest of the block and rescued one dog from an upstairs flat and one cat from the affected property. The dog was given oxygen therapy by firefighters and survived.

Crews returned to their stations by 12.45am.

The fire started when candles left on a windowsill caught net curtains and spread.
