Flooding - Western Colville - South Cambs

Fire crews from Cambridgeshire and Suffolk attended a number of flooding incidents in South Cambridgeshire on Saturday.

At just before 4.30pm combined fire control received a call to reports of widespread flooding in the Weston Colville area.

Fire crews from Cambridge, Haverhill and Newmarket attended a number of properties in the Common Road, The Green, Church End and Chapel Road areas of the village.

Firefighters wearing in-water suits used rescue sleds assist people affected by flooding. This included rescuing a total of six people from their homes and one dog, and also retrieving medicine for vulnerable people.

Crews were in the area until about 9pm.

Firefighters from Suffolk also attended three properties affected by flooding in Willingham Green and helped divert water away.

Between 4.30pm and 8pm combined fire control also received another seven calls regarding flooding but no attendance was required. This included properties Cambridge city centre, Cherry Hinton and Linton.
