House fire - Burwell - East Cambs

At 6.51pm on Friday (20) one crew from Burwell and two crews from Newmarket in Suffolk were called to a fire on Hawthorn Way in Burwell.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire in a house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and a jet. The crews returned to their stations by 9.30pm.

Station Commander Paul Clarke said: "The first crews that arrived were met by a rapidly developing fire in a wooden out-building that had spread to the house and a neighbouring property.

“The crews immediately called for assistance and did a fantastic job to prevent the fire spreading further.”

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Station Commander Clarke added: “The most likely cause of the fire was a spark from a chiminea. While these are a great garden feature, care must be taken with their use."
