House fire - Ely - East Cambs

Crews were called to a fire on Christopher Tye Close in Ely.

Crews from Ely, Chatteris, Cottenham, Cambridge, and Huntingdon, along with the Multistar aeriel appliance from Stanground and a crew from Newmarket in Suffolk attended the scene.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire in the roof of a terraced house, which was also affecting three other houses. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels.

Station Commander Paul Clarke, the officer in charge at the scene, said: “The crews arrived to find the fire in the roof of the property that was rapidly spreading to the adjacent roofs. The occupants of the property had already safely exited before the crews arrived.

“The quick-thinking actions and hard work of the crews meant the spread of the fire was contained.

“However there has been significant damage to the property, particuarly the first floor and roof space. We will be starting to investigate the cause of the fire once the area is safe to enter.”
