House fire – Little Abington - South Cambs

At 11.50am on Friday (25) one crew from Linton and one crew from Cambridge were called to a fire on Cambridge Road in Little Abington.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the ground floor of a two storey house. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their stations by 1.50pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Station Commander Paul Clarke said: β€œThe fire was started by the sun shining through a window, which ignited a pile of clothes. The sun's rays, when properly focused via a decorative window or mirror like at this incident, can have sufficient energy to start a fire.

"Although this is relatively uncommon, incidents like this serve as a reminder to be aware of all potential ignition sources, regardless of how unlikely they may seem."
