House fire – Somersham - Huntingdonshire

At 7.58pm on Monday (28) crews were called to a fire on Queens Road in Somersham. 

Crews from Huntingdon, Chatteris and Sutton attended. 

Firefighters arrived to find a house well alight. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets. Two casualties sadly died at the scene.

The crews returned to their stations by 11.20pm. 

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.

Update - Thursday March 31

The investigation has concluded and the cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.

Station Commander Carl Pardon said: “The fire developed rapidly and smoke quickly spread throughout the property. The crews did very well to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

“Due to the severity of the fire, it has been difficult to pinpoint the exact cause, but the fire is not being treated as suspicious.”
