Kitchen fire - West Chesterton ward - Cambridge

At 1.28pm on Tuesday (24) two crews from Cambridge were called to a fire on Bateson Road in West Chesterton ward, Cambridge.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the kitchen of a property. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and a jet. They returned to their station by 2.50pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: “It is important to remember to switch the cooker off completely, as it is very easy to accidentally knock the hob switch and turn it on, particularly in a busy house with young children and animals.

“Also make sure the hob area is kept completely clear of clutter and never use it as a storage area.”
