Linton firefighters give Santa a ride for charity

Linton’s on-call firefighters are introducing Santa to the village with a special Christmas ride next month.

Father Christmas will be riding on board the fire engine, which will leave the station for a drive around the village at 5pm on Saturday 17th December.

The engine will follow the route shown on the attached map.

Firefighters will walk alongside the engine chatting to people and handing out leaflets to anyone interested in becoming an on-call firefighter.

Watch Commander Lee Allen, from Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, said this is a first for the station but hopes that it will become a long-standing tradition as it has done in Yaxley, where it has been running for 44 years.

He said firefighters will be collecting donations for The Fire Fighters Charity.

WC Allen, who works as a maintenance manager outside of the service, has been an on-call firefighter for just over ten years.

“We’re a great bunch at Linton. Everyone helps each other out. It’s nice to help people and I think the fact you’re doing something worthwhile is a big part of it. You feel like you are providing something for the community. Plus it breaks the norm up. It gives you a bit of variety too and you learn new skills and do things you never think you will do in your life.”
