Road traffic collision - Toseland - Huntingdonshire

Crews from St Neots were called to a two vehicle road traffic accident on Toseland Road in Toseland, between Great Paxton and Toseland.

One of the cars clipped the electricity lines and brought them down onto the road before coming off the road and landing in a ditch.

Firefighters using specialist cutting equipment cut into the roof of the car which was on its side and helped the female casualty out of the vehicle. She was taken to hospital with a hip injury and suspected broken arm.

Watch Commander Jon-Paul Jones said: "The electricity cables had fallen some distance away from the car but were still live, presenting the crews with a significant challenge. They were however able to safely remove the casualty from the vehicle.

"The roads were absolutely treacherous and we would like to remind drivers to take care at this time of year on roads that are ungritted."
