Straw and property fire - Horningsea - South Cambs

Two crews from Cambridge were called to a house fire in High Street, Horningsea.

Firefighters arrived to discover a fire involving bales of straw that were in contact with a building measuring 8m by 10m.

Firefighters used jets and water to extinguish the fire and returned to their station by 4.50pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

Station Commander Bruice Parcell said, "Due to limited vehicle access, crews had to carry hose, portable pump BA sets and other equipment the 1/4 mile to the river bank where the house was located.

"Hay bales adjacent to the property had caught alight and fire had begun to spread to the house. Crews worked extremely hard in very humid conditions to prevent fire spread. The fire was extinguished with only minor damage to the exterior of the timber house."
