Firefighters spread Christmas cheer through the streets of Thorney and Eye
12 December 2011
THORNEY firefighters have teamed up with Father Christmas and Cambridgeshire Search and Rescue (CamSAR) to spread some Christmas cheer, and fire safety messages, through the streets of Thorney and Eye, raising money for charity in the process.
The crew drove their festive themed musical float through the streets of Eye and Thorney last week, giving out fire safety advice and collecting over £700 so far for The Fire Fighters Charity.
Chris Vaughan, Firefighter at Thorney said: "It was great to give something back to the community at this time of year, and we always get such a nice reception from local residents.
"Unfortunately the Santa Express didn't come to Eye last year so people were really happy to see it return this year.
"I'd like to thank everyone who gave so generously to a good cause, and made all the parades so enjoyable. I'd also like to give a special thanks to CamSAR, who kindly volunteered to help us with our collections this year.
"Christmas is a time for communities to come together and it's always nice for us to be a part of that, especially if we can make people aware of some of the risks at Christmas - such as kitchen fires, chimney fires and road traffic collisions on icy roads."

- Yaxley firefighters will be taking the Santa Express to Serpentine Green in Peterborough on Sunday December 18, and around Yaxley Village on December 19, 20, 21 and 22.
