Visit a fire station

A female retained firefighter climbing a ladder.

If you would like to find out more about being a firefighter on the retained duty system, why not go along to your local fire station on one of their training evenings.  There is no obligation to join but you can speak to the firefighters there and learn more from them about what it is like to be a firefighter.  The table below lists the times and days of each of our retained fire stations' training evenings.

Should you join, you will be expected to attend your station's training evening each week and there may be extra training courses which are occasionally held outside of these times. The training evenings are in addition to the call-outs you will attend each week when available.

If the station you are interested in is not currently recruiting, we do keep a holding list.  More information on this can be found in the Retained/Volunteer Firefighter Information Pack, which can be downloaded from the Retained firefighter application details page.
