Drive 2 Arrive
Drive 2 Arrive is a new, more interactive way of teaching teenagers about safer driving, and how to deal with peer pressure. Front line firefighters and community support officers work in partnership with police, volunteers and approved driving instructors to facilitate interactive workshops in schools around the county.
The workshops include several micro lessons designed to encourage reflection and peer learning. Small groups are encouraged to provide solutions for road safety issues and declare their opinions to their peers. The objective for this experiential learning is to coach students to define acceptable behaviour through debate for themselves, rather than be told by others. Because the students have ownership of their findings they are more likely to feel empowered and stand up to inappropriate driving and young people who may be seeking group acceptance are deterred from this behaviour. The lessons are concluded with a highly emotive talk from a Nick Bennett, a casualty who shares a real life account of his RTC and his life following the incident, provoking individual reflection and further reinforce the message.
