Summer of safety zones

Thousands of Cambridgeshire schoolchildren have visited safety zones before breaking up for the summer holidays.

The past few months have seen a number of week-long safety zones run at fire stations across the county – including Cambridge, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Wisbech and St Neots – welcoming Year 5 and 6 pupils to learn more about safety.

The events feature separate zones run by different partner agencies about specific types of safety. Regular supporters include Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Cambridgeshire County Council, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Road Safety Partnership and Wood Green Animal Shelter.

Station Commander Dave Lynch, responsible at the fire service for children and young people, said: “The safety zones across the county are growing now and we’re continually getting positive feedback. Each event requires a huge amount of support from a host of different organisations and really epitomises the value of partnership working.”
