House fire - Guilden Morden - South Cambs
Crews from Gamlingay, Cambridge, St Neots and two from Hertfordshire were called to a house fire after a disgarded cigarette set fire to an upstairs bedroom.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel jet to extinguish the fire from outside the property and returned to their stations by 3.50pm.
Although the fire, which caused extensive damage to the property, was out in about half an hour, crews remained to damped down and ensure nothing was left smouldering.
A couple and their sons who live at the property were out of the house before fire crews arrived.
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Please ensure you extinguish cigarettes properly into a suitable ashtray and avoid smoking in bed or where you are likely to fall asleep.”
