Fire in the open – Chatteris - Fenland

At 12.23pm on Wednesday (19) crews were called to a fire on Sixteen Foot Bank in Chatteris.

Around 25 firefighters, including crews from Chatteris, March, Ely, Huntingdon, Stanground, Manea and Ramsey attended the incident.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving around 300 tonnes of bailed straw and wooden pallets and boxes. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and jets.

Crews returned to their stations by 7.15pm. They returned regularly throughout the night to ensure the fire didn’t spread due to the high winds.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
