Fire in the open - Hargate and Hempsted - Peterborough

On Tuesday (23) at 12.26pm, one crew from Dogsthorpe, one crew from Stanground, one crew from Yaxley and one crew from Whittlesey were called to a fire on Flaxley Road, Hargate and Hempsted ward.

Crews arrived to find around 50 tonnes (150 bales) of compacted cardboard well alight.

Firefighters split the bundles and used hose reels to dampen down the area to get the fire under control.

The incident has been reinspected this morning (Wednesday (24)) and crews are assisting onsite staff with dampening down the materials.

A fire investigation will be carried out once safe to do so.
