Building fire - Bretton - Peterborough

On Sunday (16) at 12.31am, crews were called to a fire on Hyholmes, North Bretton.
Crews from Dogsthorpe, Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Stanground, Thorney, Huntingdon, Gamlingay, Yaxley and Chatteris attended. They were joined by specialist units, including the incident command unit and two water carriers, one from Ramsey and one from Holbeach (Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue Service).
Crews arrived to find a substantial fire in a building affecting a gas mains supply.
Firefighters set up hose reels to prevent the fire spreading to nearby property.
A 100 metre cordon has been set up and around 90 residents have been evacuated. Those who’ve been evacuated have been signposted to The Cresset in Bretton, where they are being looked after by the Red Cross.
Police are also in attendance.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

Update 16/8/2020 at 1.30pm
The Bretton Fire has now been extinguished. Most residents have returned home with a handful still evacuated whilst the area is assessed.
No one was injured as a result of the incident and we thank the local community for their cooperation.
The cause of the fire will now be investigated.
