Cow rescue - Guyhirn - Fenland

On Tuesday (22) at 11.19am, one crew from Dogsthorpe, one crew from Wisbech, one crew from March and one crew from Huntingdon were called to rescue a cow stuck in water near the A47 at Guyhirn.
Due to the tidal nature of the river, silt levels and access this proved a challenging incident for all crews involved. Specialist firefighters used in water equipment to assist getting the cow to the water’s edge.
Firefighters worked with the farmer to rescue the cow from the river.
Crews returned to their stations by 3.45pm.
A fire service spokesperson commented: “Incidents like this can be very time consuming. We would encourage all animal owners, big or small, based near our rivers, lakes, or water sources, to make sure their boundary fences and gates are secured to prevent further such occurrences and avoid curious animals getting into mischief by the water".
