Building fire – Girton - South Cambs

At 4.07pm on Friday (23) crews from Cambridge and Cottenham were called to a fire on Wellbrook Way in Girton.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a first floor bedroom of a care home. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and a jet and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan. Smoke curtains were used to help reduce the spread of smoke to the rest of the building.

A male casualty was rescued and given first aid by firefighters. He was left in the care of ambulance crews.

The crews returned to their stations by 6.30pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
