Silo fire – Woodwalton - Huntingdonshire

At 7.05pm on Saturday (24) crews were called to a fire on Church End Road in Woodwalton. 

Crews from Stanground, Huntingdon, Chatteris, Cambridge and the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade initially attended the incident.  

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire in a grain dryer containing around 80 tonnes of barley grain. Wearing breathing apparatus they contained and prevented the fire from spreading using hose reels.  

Crews worked closely with on site staff and maintained a regular presence at the scene throughout the weekend to ensure the fire didn’t spread and the area was safe.  

The cause of the fire was accidental.
