Fire in the open - Newnham ward - Cambridge

On Thursday (12) at 9.09pm, two crews from Cambridge were called to a fire in the open at Coton Countryside Reserve on Grantchester Road.

Crews arrived to find around 30 tones of straw well alight.

Firefighters used a hose reel to get the fire under control and prevent the fire from spreading to a field of standing crop.

Crews returned to their station by 12.15am, before reinspecting later in the morning.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
