Chimney fire – Yaxley - Huntingdonshire

At 5.08pm on Tuesday (28) crews from Stanground and Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on Main Street in Yaxley.

Firefighters arrived to find a chimney flue on fire in a bungalow, involving a gas fire. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their stations by 7.15pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected at least once a year, preferably before lighting it when the cold weather arrives. The build-up of debris can lead to a fire spreading from the chimney flue to the rest of a house. Getting your chimney swept regularly will help to prevent a chimney fire and keep your home safe.”
