Building fire – city centre - Peterborough

At 12.02am on Saturday (20) crews were called to a fire on Wentworth Street in Peterborough City Centre.

Around 20 firefighters, including crews from Stanground, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade, Dogsthorpe and Yaxley, along with crews from Crowland and Market Deeping in Lincolnshire, attended the incident.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire in a first floor hotel room. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a jet and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

The building was safely evacuated when the crews arrived. A casualty was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and left in the care of ambulance crews.

The crews returned to their stations by 2.30am.

The cause of the fire was accidental.
