Farewell to popular Peterborough fire officer

A fire safety stalwart has said farewell to colleagues after more than 30 years’ service.

Station Commander Lynn Betteridge, who most recently was Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service’s arson liaison officer and road safety lead, said goodbye to colleagues this month (July).

The 57-year-old from Peterborough first joined the Service as a volunteer firefighter at Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade in 1985 before becoming wholetime the following year.

Lynn started his career at Huntingdon Fire Station and as he worked his way up the career ladder he served at a number of locations including Dogsthorpe, Stanground, Cambridge and training centre. In the last decade of his career, Lynn was a member of the operational response, operational support and community fire safety teams.

Group Commander Chris Parker said: “Lynn is a well-known face in Peterborough among our partners and has been instrumental in working with the police and other organisation to drive down arson across the county and build more efficient working arrangements.

“We wish Lynn all the best in his retirement and thank him for his commitment to the fire service and the communities he has served in Cambridgeshire.”
