Building fire - Queen Edith's ward - Cambridge

Last night (23 December) we were alerted to a building on Francis Crick Avenue in Cambridge.

We were called at 7.25pm to reports of smoke coming from the building.

Our Combined Fire Control mobilised crews from Cambridgeshire, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Essex.

In total 16 appliances responded to the incident (Cambridge, Littleport, St Neots, March, Manea, Huntingdon, Saffron Walden, Royston, Baldock, Haverhill, Wickhambrook and Newmarket).

Crews arrived to find the first floor filled with smoke.

Firefighters worked to locate the source of the fire, and used hose reels and jets to extinguish the fire, before ventilating the building.

Firefighters checked for hotspots and further spread, before the incident began scaling down at around 12.40am. Firefighters reinspected the building at 7am and will do so again later today.

A fire investigator will be onsite today to determine the most likely cause of the fire.
