Flat fire – Gunthorpe - Peterborough

At 9.55am on Saturday (9) crews from Dogsthorpe and Stanground were called to a fire on Mendip Grove in Gunthorpe, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving a first floor flat in a building. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and cleared the smoke using a positive pressure ventilation fan.

A female casualty was rescued from the property and given first aid. Sadly, despite the crew’s efforts, the casualty died at the scene.

The crews returned to their stations by 1pm.

A joint investigation with Cambridgeshire Constabulary concluded the cause of the fire was not suspicious and this was an isolated incident.
