Fire in the open - Holme - Huntingdonshire

At 3.22pm on Monday (27) crews were called to a fire in the open on Holme Fen in Holme.
More than 40 firefighters, including crews from Stanground, Chatteris, Dogsthorpe, Whittlesey, Huntingdon, Thorney and Manea, along with a specialist 4x4 vehicle from Thorney, the water carrier from Ramsey and a crew from Oundle in Northamptonshire, attended the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire in the woods. They are using beaters to extinguish the fire and are working in sectors. Good progress is being made.
The incident is still ongoing.
Update - 10pm
The incident has been scaled back, with one crew remaining at the scene to ensure the area is safe.
Update 28/07/2026 - 9am
Crews are back on scene today Tuesday (28) checking for hotspots. The fire is deep seated in peat so will take some time to fully extinguish. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day.

Crews have remained on scene throughout the day. They have been using jets to extinguish hotspots and have made good progress.
Firefighters are expecting to remain on scene for the rest of the day, and possibly into the next couple of days also.
We are asking the public to continue avoiding the area where they can. Crews are working incredibly hard to bring the fire under control and minimise disruption.
