Building fire - Eynesbury - Huntingdonshire

At 10.52am on Tuesday (11), crews from Wisbech, March, Chatteris, Yaxley, Cambridge, Sawtry, Littleport and St Neots, alongside crews from Bedfordshire were called to a building fire on Marston Road, Eynesbury.

Firefighters arrived to find a large, well-developed fire in a building involving recycled materials. 

They worked incredibly hard in sectors to extinguish the fire wearing breathing apparatus and using hose reels.

Members of the public were asked to close windows and doors if they were affected by the smoke and to stay away from the area.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. 

Crews will continue to be on scene today and will be reinspecting the area.

Update - Thursday August 13

Crews continue to regularly inspect the scene of the fire to make sure it's safe, working with site staff to identify hot spots and ensure there is no further fire spread.

Update - Saturday August 15

Crews have continued visiting the site to check on the progress of the smouldering fire, making sure the area remains safe with on site staff. Demolition of the building containing the fire has began, which is due to to be finished over the weekend.

 

Update - Monday August 17

Crews are continuing to reinspect the site in Eynesbury, however the fire is now out. 

The structure affected by the fire is being demolished.
