New leadership for Fire Authority

A new chair and vice chair have been appointed for the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Fire Authority.
Councillor Chris Morris was voted in as the authority’s new chair, with Councillor Andrew Bond confirmed as vice chair.
Liberal Democrat Councillor Morris is a new appointment to the authority, having been elected in May this year. He replaces Councillor Edna Murphy, who has served as chair for the last four years.
Councillor Morris said: “I am delighted to be appointed as chair of the authority. The opportunity to play a part in running such a crucial service to the community is something I am very excited about and look forward to meeting colleagues across the Service.
“I would like to thank Councillor Edna Murphy for her excellent leadership of the authority over the last four years. Highlights of this include a very successful inspection and the opening of the Service’s state-of-the-art training centre and fire station in Huntingdon.
“Officers I have spoken with were quick to highlight that she has been a pleasure to work with and I am very thankful that she leaves the authority in such good order.”
New vice chair, Liberal Democrat Councillor Bond, from Peterborough City Council, has served on the authority for many years.
Councillor Bond added: “I am looking forward to taking on the challenge of vice chair of the authority. Having been a member for some time I am confident I can bring a lot of experience to help ensure we continue to deliver our excellent service.”
Chief Fire Officer Matthew Warren added: “We welcome both councillors Morris and Bond, as well as the rest of the new members to the authority. We look forward to working together and continuing to provide the excellent service we do to our communities.”
The appointments were confirmed at the Fire Authority meeting, which took place on Wednesday June 25. Footage of the meeting is available in the Fire Authority section.
