Eight new on-call firefighters join stations across Cambridgeshire

Eight new on-call firefighters have passed their initial training and are set to respond to emergencies across the county.

The new firefighters ended their course with a pass out celebration on Saturday 18 April. During the event, they completed two drills - a road traffic collision scenario and a building fire drill to show off the skills they have learned during their training. They were joined by family and friends who watched on in the audience at the Service’s Training Centre in Huntingdon, where they carried out their course.

During their training the firefighters learned many skills, including how to rescue people who have become trapped following a road traffic collision, and how to safely extinguish fires in different circumstances.

Group Commander Paul Oliver said: “It’s an honour to welcome eight new on-call firefighters to the Service. We rely heavily on the continued support of on-call firefighters and their families to provide operational cover with more than half of the county’s fire stations being solely crewed by on-call firefighters.”

We are actively recruiting on-call firefighters at stations around the county to respond to emergencies around other commitments. When needed they will drop everything to get on a fire engine to help people in their local community. If you want to help your local community and become an on-call firefighter visit the careers section on the website.

The new on-call firefighters will be responding from the following stations:

  • Jonathon Jones – St Neots Fire Station
  • Jasmine Fox – Ely Fire Station
  • Mike Pitt – Sawston Fire Station
  • Chris Green – Ramsey Fire Station
  • Cameron Short – Linton Fire Station
  • Harry Drysdale – St Ives Fire Station
  • Josh Brown – Cottenham Fire Station
  • Rebecca Baldry – Sawtry Fire Station
