Five decades of public service celebrated

On Sunday 2nd August 2026, a highly valued member of the Service’s Fleet and Equipment Team reached the remarkable milestone of 50 years of public service. Andy Milton has dedicated his career to both Local Government and the Fire and Rescue Service. Area Commander Vicky Best had the privilege of presenting him with his 50 year badge.

Andy began his career with Cambridge City Council on 2nd August 1976, where he worked for 10 years. He also served as a Firefighter at Duxford Airfield whilst working for both the council and Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, demonstrating an early commitment to supporting the local community.

On 3rd November 1986, Andy joined Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service as part of the Fleet and Equipment Team. Over the past 40 years, Andy has witnessed and adapted to significant developments in firefighting vehicles, equipment and technology, continually updating and maintaining his skills to meet changing operational demands.

Throughout his career, Andy has responded to countless incidents and vehicle breakdowns, often going above and beyond his day-to-day responsibilities. His dedication and expertise have played a vital role in ensuring that the Service's vehicles and equipment remain safe, reliable and ready for operational use whenever they are needed.

Reaching 50 years of service is an exceptional achievement and reflects Andy's commitment, professionalism and dedication to public service. We thank him for his outstanding contribution and congratulate him on this significant milestone.
