Fire station opens its doors for charity

Dogsthorpe fire station opened its doors at the weekend as firefighters came together with the local community to raise money for two incredible charities. 

The charity open day saw firefighters from Dogsthorpe supported by colleagues from across the Service host a range of activities bringing the community closer to their local fire station while raising money for the Fire Fighters Charity and Woodgreen Pets Charity. 

Visitors of all ages enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the day. Families had the opportunity to meet firefighters, explore fire engines, have a go at using a hose and watch an exciting demonstration showcasing the skills and teamwork of crews when attending incidents. 

Thanks to the generosity of those who attended, around £2,300 was raised which will be split between the two charities. 

Phil Thacker, Fire Fighter Charity coordinator for the Service commented: “It was fantastic to see the community and colleagues come together to support Fire Fighters Charity as well as Woodgreen. Thank you so much to all those who came along and donated.” 

Fire Fighters Charity is an important charity close to many firefighters as they provide physical and mental health support to both serving and retired firefighters, as well as their loved ones. 

Woodgreen is one of the UK’s leading pet charities, supporting dogs, cats and small pets through rescue, advice and community support.
