Chimney fire - Bassingbourn - South Cambs

At 9.31pm on Saturday (14) a crew from Gamlingay was called to a chimney fire on Walnut Tree Close in Bassingbourn.

Firefighters used small gear to extinguish the fire before returning to their station by 10.30pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: “Please ensure that you get your chimney swept and brick work inspected regularly, at least once a year. The debris buildup in the flue can be set alight when heating the home, which could cause a significant fire. Regular chimney maintenance will help prevent this from happening.

“As the cold weather begins to arrive, it is important to get your chimney swept before lighting it for the first time.”
