Fire in the open – Somersham - Huntingdonshire

At 6.54am on Monday (18) crews were called to a fire on St Ives Road in Somersham.
Crews from Ramsey, Chatteris and Manea, including the water carrier, along with the command unit from Huntingdon and crews from Newmarket in Suffolk, attended the incident.
Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving around 200 tonnes of waste at a recycling centre. They remain at the scene working to prevent the fire from spreading, working with site staff to make breaks in the waste piles.

Crews remain at the scene working with on-site staff to break down the waste and extinguish the fire using hose reels and machinery.
Residents might see steam rising from the firefighting activity.
Firefighters will be remaining at the scene for most of the day.

Crews are still at the site and continue working with staff to break the fire down and extinguish it.

Firefighters remained at the scene throughout the night monitoring the area and working with staff to ensure the fire was contained and didn't spread any further.
The scene was handed over to site staff, with regular inspections planned by crews during the day.
Update - Tuesday August 19, 12 noon
Firefighters have conducted a further inspection and found the fire is now out and the area is safe, so have concluded the incident.
