Latest wholetime recruits finish training

Five new wholetime firefighters are now ready to respond to emergencies after successfully completing their initial training earlier this month.

To mark the occasion, their families were invited to a special pass out ceremony, where they witnessed the recruits demonstrate the skills they had learned during their course.

The new recruits trained at the Service’s state of the art training centre in Huntingdon with facilities such as multi-level buildings and containers for live fire burns to give firefighters a realistic training experience, a large road traffic collision training area and facilities to replicate water filled ditches to simulate rescues.

Chief Fire Officer Executive Matthew Warren said: “It was a proud moment to see our new recruits showcase some of the skills they’ve developed during their training and to have the honour of presenting them with their certificates at the pass out ceremony. I congratulate them on completing their initial training and wish them every success in their careers with us.”

Before heading to their stations to begin their careers, the group showed off the skills and techniques they have been learning at a passing out ceremony in front of their families and senior fire officers. This consisted of demonstrating tackling a house fire, with a casualty rescue, followed by a road traffic collision drill where two casualties were freed from their vehicles.

Among the areas the group covered on the course were water rescue, working at height, animal rescue and road traffic collision handling. They were also able to learn and practice tackling fires and rescues in the various purpose-built buildings with controlled fire burns.

The new recruits will now join their stations and start responding to emergencies.
