New friend for Chatteris firefighters

Chatteris firefighters made a new friend after coming to the aid of a trapped dog.

The crew was alerted at around 11am on Thursday (September 3), reporting Twiggy the dog was trapped in a barbed wire fence.

Watch Commander Rob Edwards from Chatteris Fire Station said: “Twiggy was entangled in the barbed fire fence, so was obviously in some pain and distressed. With the help of the owner we kept Twiggy calm and carefully cut the wire around her, then carried her back to the owner’s vehicle. Luckily, she didn’t sustain a serious injury, but did require a trip to the vet as a precaution.

“Twiggy and her owner were very grateful, particularly to our Fire Control who were able to quickly and calmly gather the details to share with the crew, but also give reassurance that help was on the way.”

The crew returned to their station by 1pm.
